Chronic Writer’s Block

June 10, 2008

Writing does not come easily to me.

I admire people who can bang out a story idea in short amount of time.

My problem is mostly in coming up with an good idea.

Blogging has taught me that discipline is the key to writing.

Most writers will tell you to write daily, even if the work winds up in the wastebasket.

Don’t worry that your first draft is good or the spelling is correct. Just get the ideas out.

Editing and organization come later.

Mind Mapping is an excellent tool that helps organize your thoughts, whether you write on a blog or create content for morning radio.

Tony Buzan developed the concept in the late 70s. You can use it to write an article, brainstorm promotions or take meeting notes.

Mind Mapping helps you put the right and left hemispheres of the brain to work. It uses color and drawings to get more ideas on paper.

It will have you working in the way your brain is most comfortable.

Mind Mapping will help generate lots of ideas but most importantly you’ll suddenly see new connections.

This is very powerful stuff.

Mind Mapping is simple to learn and easy to master.

Buzan has two books “Mind Mapping”, and for the hardcore, “The Mind Map Book”. Borders and Barnes & Noble usually have them in stock.

The books go into great detail how to use Mind Mapping.

It is the one thing I’ve found to break my chronic writer’s block.
